Functional Breathwork
What is Functional Breathwork?
Pranayama Breathing
Pranayama is the combination of two Sanskrit words:
Prana - life force or energy
Yama- control, restraint or expansion
Prana is the energy that revolves around us. Without Prana there is no life. Prana refers to our breath.
Pranayama breathing is a practice that focuses on controlling our breath, in view of a specific outcome.
Different techniques, such as Ujjayi, Nadi Shodhana, or Kapalabhati, are used, with the aim to absorb, retrain and distribute Prana in our body, cells and mind.

Pranayama practice is also the bridge between the physical practice ( asanas) and the more spiritual practice, including meditation and self-realisation.
Oxygen Advantage® Functional Breathing
The Oxygen Advantage® (OA) approach allows to dive deeper into the science of Breath and address the 3 dimensions of the breathing process: Biochemistry, Biomecanics, and the cadence.

We breathe more than 20,000 times per day. As breathing affects all systems of our bodies it is crucial to make sure the way we breathe is correct.

The OA program focuses on increasing oxygen delivery to tissues and organs, and optimizing the body's use of oxygen. It emphasizes the importance of proper breathing patterns to improve athletic performance, overall health and well being.

Nose breathing, Breath-hold exercise, Carbon Dioxide tolerance, amongst others, are explored in this training.
The Benefits of Functional Breathing

What to expect in a session of functional breathwork
There are 3 stages in the practice:
-
Arriving: Through breath observation and functional breathing exercises from the OA program we learn about the biomechanics & biochemistry of our body.

-
Anchoring: Slowly we anchor ourselves deeper and explore subtle breathing, using Pranayama technique: Light, Slow & Deep Breath.

-
Letting go: Once the breath has becoming quiet & subtle, we can finally let go of our turbulence and still the mind, through simple meditation techniques.

We feel light, free and focus to move on in our day
